The Pre-Kindergarten 3 program is a developmental play program that reflects deep understanding of the stages of growth and maturation of our youngest RPDS children. We always remember that play is a child’s “work” and it is through play that children learn most effectively. Parents may choose classes that meet either 2 days per week (Tuesday & Thursday), 3 days per week (Monday, Wednesday and Friday) or 5 days per week from 8:00am to 12:00 noon. For most students, PK-3 this is the first experience in a school setting following simple routines. The full offering of our Extended day program is available for our Pre-K 3 children.

The RPDS program is one of both structured and unstructured play designed to offer a wide variety of learning experiences that introduce basic readiness skills, early literacy, and math concepts. Students enjoy multi-sensory activities crafted to promote the development of the whole child; socially, emotionally, cognitively and physically. Thematic units offer the framework for activities that enhance fine motor development, eye-hand coordination, visual tracking, spatial developments and language growth. In the classroom, the Handwriting Without Tears curriculum offers developmentally appropriate early instruction in fine motor skills and support for important visual-spatial developments. Music and movement are incorporated into classroom routines to enhance early learning concepts. This nurturing learning model of instruction introduced to the young child is designed to foster success in Pre- Kindergarten 4 and beyond.

The Pre-Kindergarten 3 classrooms are located on the ground floor next to the main office in the Williams Building. This allows for easy drop-off and pick-up. Each of the Pre-K 3 classrooms is large, spacious and intentionally designed to offer young children the opportunity to freely explore social play experiences with others. Well-designed activity areas are equipped with age appropriate early childhood materials. Pre-K 3 students enjoy their own outdoor play space specifically designed to foster early motor and important social developments.
