Summer is a wonderful time of year. Time for vacations, camp, sleeping in, swimming, reading, and mid-week sleepovers! Summer Reading Packets
Mrs. Cox, our Media Specialist is hoping you will join her as an All Star Summer Reader. She selected some wonderful summer reading books for you. Believe it or not, she has read every one of them! Make sure you keep track of your reading, because a special treat awaits you when you return! For all of our rising fourth through sixth graders, be sure to complete your required summer reading books and questions and enjoy the math challenge from Ms. Body and Mrs. McGurrin.
Research shows that children who are read to consistently develop both communication and thinking skills at a much younger age. Reading enriches ones’ thoughts, widens their vision and enhances their world. Avid readers stand out in the academic arena because of improved cognitive abilities. Children can think creatively and become better analyzers and problem solvers. Children growing up in homes with access to books to read have stronger language skills.
I invite you this summer to curl up with a book in your lap and your imagination ready to unfold. I hope you find yourself at the beach reading under the sun or at the pool reading waiting for your hamburger to come off the grill. No matter where you are, you can read, read, read, and become anyone you aspire to be.
Have a restful and enjoyable summer with your family and friends. We can’t wait to hear about all of your reading adventures as you become an “All Star Reader” at RPDS.
