Ways to Support RPDS

Riverside Presbyterian Day School is one of the top schools in the region because students and faculty have the necessary tools to excel in their choices for personal growth and discovery.

The School annually seeks and receives support through the following vehicles. The Headmaster and Advancement Officer will gladly work with donors on an individual basis to determine the funding area and the type of donation that is best for you.

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund provides budgetary support for numerous improvements in both the classroom and the campus that tuition alone does not cover. Annual Fund gifts are extremely valuable to RPDS because they are unrestricted gifts that can be used to both meet our most pressing needs and to seize new opportunities as they arise.

Classroom enrichment, student activities, parent association activities, and professional development for faculty and staff are all supported by the Annual Fund. Campus enrichment and unexpected maintenance and repairs are also supported by the Annual Fund.

Capers Auction/Dinner Party

Each spring the school community gathers in a social event known as Capers. The event provides a fun atmosphere in which to raise funds for targeted projects and classroom improvements.

This year, in celebration of 60 years educational excellence, RPDS has committed to a major renovation of the library and computer room to create a state-of-the-art Library/Media Center. In recognition that a library is the heartbeat of any educational institution, this magnificently renovated facility will further RPDS’s capability to champion reading, communication and technology as major curriculum cornerstones within our superior learning environment.

Capital Giving

Independent educational institutions that continue to mature and anticipate future student needs routinely invest in capital improvements. Capital giving is giving beyond annual fund giving and/or special events giving. Often donors make pledges to such campaigns that are fulfilled within a three to five year giving period.

Endowment Gifts

Gifts to the RPDS Endowment Fund are permanently restricted, producing revenue that is used to support the School. Our endowment fund annually supports school operations, notably providing need-based financial aid for deserving families and to realize the school’s stated goal of ensuring economic diversity within our student body.

Memorial Gifts

RPDS often receives gifts to honor the memory of departed loved ones. Unless restricted by the donor, Memorial gifts are directed by vote of the RPDS Board of Trustees to various School projects each year. Memorial names and donors are listed in the Annual Report.

Honorary Gifts

Each year RPDS receives gifts that name special persons whom a donor wishes to honor. Honoree names and donors are listed in the Annual Report.

In-Kind Gifts

Gifts in Kind are non-cash gifts that are offered to individual classrooms, to the Library/Media Center or to other areas as appropriate. Items donated for Capers or for re-sale fall into this category.

Grants

Such funds are received in response to formal requests for funding through corporations and foundations. Many employers offer matching funds to augment gifts made by their employees. Please contact the Advancement Office if you wish to suggest that a particular corporation or foundation be approached, or if you would like a list of employers that provide matching funds.

Planned Giving

These are gifts of fiduciary instruments of any size, such as gifts of insurance, appreciated stock, real estate or annuity funds. Bequests also fall into this category. The Advancement Office works with the RPDS Investment Manager to help donors find the best vehicle for the individual’s giving wishes. Planned gifts typically offer substantial tax benefits to the donor, and should be discussed with a tax advisor.

As an IRS 501(c)3 corporation, all gifts to Riverside Presbyterian Day School are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the tax-code laws. For additional tax receipts, or to discuss your specific gift verification needs, please contact Carlton Higginbotham in the RPDS Advancement Office.
