Advancement FAQs

We sincerely appreciate the generosity of those who support RPDS and its mission.

As you consider a gift in support of the school and its initiatives, please keep in mind that all gifts – regardless of size – make a difference.

What is The Promise Fund?

The Promise Fund is Riverside Presbyterian Day School’s (RPDS) annual giving program, and one of the most important sources of revenue other than student tuition. It is an essential part of the annual operating budget, and just as our mission to educate the mind, nurture the spirit and foster the development of the whole child is infused in all aspects of RPDS, so too does the Promise Fund touch every part of the RPDS experience. Promise Fund dollars support: need-based financial assistance, innovative academic curricula, cutting-edge technology, campus improvements, academies, student study trips, athletic equipment and professional development for faculty and staff.

Every year, The Promise Fund campaign begins on September 1 and ends on May 31. All contributions to the Promise Fund are 100 percent tax deductible and unrestricted, which is the most useful to our school.

Why doesn’t the school charge enough tuition to cover operating costs?

If tuition was increased to cover the actual cost of all programs, many could not afford to send their children to RPDS. Our commitment to remaining accessible to our families leads us to seek different ways of funding our operations so that tuition does not bear the whole burden.

Is giving to the annual fund unique to RPDS?

Private schools have long relied upon the generosity and loyalty of their constituencies. Very few private schools meet full operational costs with tuition alone.

Can I make a gift for a specific purpose or to support the endowment?

Absolutely! If there is a specific project you would like to fund, please let us know. The endowment fund secures the school’s long-term future and generates an important and significant part of the annual operating revenue. The principal of an endowment gift is preserved and only a portion of the interest and earnings is used. Endowment gifts are professionally invested and managed to provide income for the school’s operating budget, financial aid, and faculty support in perpetuity. Gifts to the endowment may be of any size and may be designated for a particular purpose. Click here for more information about the endowment fund and named funds.

May I make a deferred or planned gift?

Yes. Your support makes the difference in securing the future of RPDS. Opportunities for planned giving include bequests, gifts of retirement assets or life insurance, gift annuities, and trust distributions. Click here for more information about planned giving.

What is Capers and will I be asked to participate?

Capers is one of the school’s primary fundraising initiatives. Funds raised help support key initiatives such as faculty professional development and student financial aid which contribute to ensuring sustained excellence at RPDS. We hope that you will choose to participate in and support Capers by purchasing auction items, donating items for the silent or live auctions, volunteering on the Capers committee, or becoming a sponsor.

Is there any chance that my gift could be made anonymously?

When you send in your contribution, be sure to let us know that you would like to remain anonymous and we will be happy to honor your request.

May I make a gift in memory of someone or to honor a special individual, for instance a former teacher?

Absolutely. We will be happy to discuss either of these options with you. The honoree or appropriate family member will be notified of the gift, if you wish.

My company offers a matching gifts program. Does RPDS participate in corporate matching gift programs?

Matching gifts are an easy way to double your gift to RPDS. Please let us know when you contribute that your company offers matching gifts. Contact your company’s HR Department if you are unsure whether your employer offers a matching gift program.

Is my gift tax-deductible?

All contributions are fully tax-deductible according to IRS guidelines.

May I volunteer my time?

Absolutely! Volunteers play a key role in the life of the school and we encourage members of the RPDS community to become involved by sharing their time and talents. Please click here to explore volunteer opportunities or email Elizabeth Ingram at eingram@rpds.com. She will be happy to explore the options with you.
