Riverside Presbyterian Day School

Servant Leadership

Servant leadership is at the very center of the Riverside Way.

Our classroom curricula incorporate serving as a core value beginning with Pre-Kindergarten. In 5th Grade, our students participate in a team building retreat call Pathfinders where the groundwork is laid for their 6th Grade experience, the RPDS 6th Grade Leadership Council.

As school begins each year, 6th Graders attend a two-day retreat at Southwind Young Life Camp. With the guidance of faculty, the Young Life staff, and RPDS alumni, students create a vision and a plan for their 6th Grade year.

During the school year, teams of 6th Grade students serve on campus as PreK 3 through 1st Grade Aides, Safety Patrols, Library Aides and Chapel Guides. They lead our success partnerships with the Downtown Ecumenical Services Council, Lutheran Social Services, and the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. In the fall, our 6th Grade servant leaders spend three full days serving off campus at over a dozen agencies in our community, an event we call Project LEADS. Additionally, students and staff volunteer after school in the winter and spring to serve these same agencies.

“Whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant.” Matthew 20:26b
