RPDS utilizes the captivating Singapore Math curriculum, which is bursting with concrete ways for students to gain number sense and math “fluency.” Singapore Math employs contemporary educational research that pinpoints the importance of:
- Developing strong number sense
- A deeper understanding of mathematical concepts
- Facility with problem solving
- Comfort with mental calculations
- The practice of mathematical reasoning
RPDS teachers embrace Singapore Math for the program’s deliberate methodologies, which challenge students to develop higher order thinking skills, to increase math stamina, and to foster algebraic thinking.
At RPDS, cementing “math facts” is an ongoing component of regular math instruction. Students in Grades 1 - 4 utilize a variety of technological tools to practice and learn their math facts. Through a systematic, “bite-sized” approach to memorizing math facts, students are encouraged to practice material at both school and home. Goals include comfort, confidence and automaticity with mathematics.
