That's a WrAP!
Posted 10/03/2013 02:00PM

This week, as part of our school-wide Literacy Learning Initiative, our 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade students participated in The ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP). This assessment was developed by Education Research Bureau, (ERB), a nationally recognized testing company primarily used by Independent Schools. ERB also developed the CTP 4 standardized test which is given at RPDS each spring beginning in the 2nd grade. Additionally, ERB is the company which provides the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE). The ISEE exam is administered at RPDS during the fall of a student’s 6th grade year for Independent Middle School Admissions.

What is WrAP?

The ERB Writing Assessment Program (WrAP) provides a direct measure of writing ability. Students produce a writing sample in response to a writing prompt. The WrAP writing assessment is given in two class sessions on two consecutive days. In the first session, students think about, make notes and write a rough draft. During the second session, students provide a final response to the topic and then write a final copy into their assessment booklets.

Evaluation of each student’s writing sample is completed by two ERB writing experts, including grammar and writing conventions. WrAP uses a six-trait, six-point rubric to provide information that can help target and improve instruction in writing.

At RPDS we are intentionally striving to implement Literacy teaching methodologies that foster excellent readers and writers. The WrAP is an important component in our evaluation and growth mindset.
